Who are the members of The Amber Gene?

Benjamin Maney - guitar, vocals

Mike Nipp - bass, vocals

Glen Murrell - drums

How would you describe your music?

Tough to nail down as far as what to call it. Art Rock? We used to joke around in the beginning calling it "Indie-Gaze." We've never shied away from the Slowcore label. One write-up called us

"Minimalist Indie Rock." If that's a genre, we'll take it. If people are listening to the music they can call it what they want, really. We're just trying to create beautiful sounds that are "palatable and don't attack the senses" as Mike would say.

When and how did the band come together?

The band began in 2019 with Mike and I just hanging out in his garage listening to and geeking out about music. There are instruments lying around his garage so it was only a matter of time before we picked them up and started kind of writing together.

Eventually we found our first drummer and the deal was sealed.

What's the subject matter of your lyrics?

On the few songs that do have vocals and lyrics the subject matter varies. Our first album addresses the band coming together, breaking addictions, coping but they did seem to come together quite beautifully with the music being what it is

How many recordings do you have out?

We have one album out right now called "Bloodmoney." It's streaming on all platforms. It originally came out in 2021, but has just been picked up by a small label and given a physical release. The physical release is important these days. Own your media. You never know when things will disappear from a digital platform. We are going into the studio in a month or so to record the new album so that's something to keep an ear out for. We're hoping to get that out around the new year.

What are your musical influences?

We have a wide array of influences between the three of us, but I'd say the common ones we all share that pertain to our writing style would be Slint, Bedhead, Fugazi, Ride, Finback, Russian Circles, Superdrag, and Tortoise, just to name a few. We're all pretty big music nerds so that list can go on for days especially if you talk to Glen who works at a record store. We're always introduced to new bands by him. There's also one particular song by Botch that is very special to the band.

Any memorable show moments?

It was probably our second show and after the last song, over the applause, I heard a guy shout "You took me on a
