Boat Burning

For Fans of: Glenn Branca, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, King Crimson, Morton Feldman

Boat Burning plays guitars-and-drums-driven instrumental post-rock/post-punk, creating towers of stacked harmonics resulting in a sound that combines orchestral sweep with the physical thrall of punk. The band released its latest EP, S T R O K E, in December 2025 and features Robin Diamond, Geordie Grindle, and Jonathan Matis on guitars, Norm Veenstra on guitar and bass, and Mark Sherman on drums/percussion.

The Dirt Whisperers

FFO: The Black Keys, Charley Patton, The Infamous Stringdusters, King Missile III

The Dirt Whisperers are Eric Simons on guitar and vocals and Bradford Reed on pencilina, vocals and drums. Bradford's pencilina, his own invention, is an electric ten-stringed collision of the hammer dulcimer, slide guitar, koto, and fretless bass. Their music is grounded in traditional blues and classic soul, adding touches of gospel, Americana, psychedelia, and experimental. Their album The Dirt Whisperers was released in November 2025 on Tonic Records.

Quiet Room

FFO: The Mars Volta

Quiet Room is a boundary-pushing grunge fusion band that pulls from post-punk, alt rock, folk, psychedelic, and experimental music to offer songs about the beauty and tragedy of consciousness, the despair of political cruelty, and the healing magic of self-reflection. The band features Ja'Wuan Martin-Cooper on guitar, Thiel Secrist on mountain dulcimer, Yvonna Liszewski on bass, and Arturo Carchedi on drums.
