In 2013 Rick Jobe moved to Nashville TN after retiring from careers in music teaching, music retail, instrument repair, multimedia production, ordained ministry and college professorship. He founded the eclectic Western Swing band Rick Jobe and the Wonderin’ Cowboys. This band represents a truly American genre, born in the Great Depression, that includes elements of country, jazz, swing, dixieland and blues music. Rick authentically revives the Western Swing genre and adds to the repertoire with his own original songs. The band can include guitar, clarinet, string bass, piano, fiddle, dobro, steel guitar and drums, bringing a highly acoustic element into play. The vocal offerings are classic rural American narratives of Texas and Oklahoma and include the roots of those people of the Southeastern United States. It’s fun, happy music that was designed to dispel the doldrums of depression life, and it does that well.
The band includes stellar talents, such as Stephan Dudash, who has toured with Dave Brubeck, Janie Fricke, Shania Twain and Olivia Newton John. The combination of excellent professional talent from Nashville and Huntsville AL delivers a poignant mixture that brings joy to musicians and audiences alike.
50 Shades of Hay plays a blend of Classic Country, Western Swing and Bluegrass, with blazing solos. With singer/songwriter Wendy Newcomer on lead vocals, the boys bring the harmony like the Jordanaires did for Patsy Cline. When Eamon McLoughlin and Paul Kramer take the lead on fiddle, mandolin and guitar, these triple threats impart unforgettable solos. Multi-instrumentalist Rory Hoffman brings magic and creativity to anything he plays, including accordion, mandolin, harmonica and guitar. Bassist David Spicher brings the rhythm low end on a big upright bass. He, along with Grammy-winning drummer Gregg Stocki, provide the rhythm bed.
