Staff Picks is a quarterly residency here at The Camel where we get to feature some of the staff's favorite locals! We pick the bands and give them 4 sundays in a row to build out the best bills they can muster so you all can't make the excuse that you're too busy. These are acts we love and beleive in so make sure you make it out at least one Sunday night this month to check out Strawberry Moon!...Or maybe two, trust us, they rip!

Rikki Rakki

Rikki Rakki is a hazy, dreamy, “stargazy” rock n roll band from Richmond, Virginia. Songwriter Erika Blatnik’s sweet-tart voice and lilting melodies deliver lyrics hell-bent on finding hope in a void-gazing reality. Along with her own jaunty guitar, Blatnik and buds Matt Luger (guitar/synth), Andy Brown (bass), and Jay Kole (drums) create a vibrant tapestry of sound, weaving layers of reverb-washed harmonies, decaying ambient flutters, sharp jangles and tactile rhythms.

Cherub Tree

Based out of Washington D.C., award winning band Cherub Tree paves a new road in the punk and indie scene with their eclectic musical style - combining influences from genres such as punk, grunge, indie, folk, pop, and rock.

In May 2023, Cherub Tree founders Brenna Dascoulias and Ryan Shakeri (with support from Izzy Burke and Sam Elliott) released their DIY EP titled “where are your manners”. Recorded and produced by Cherub Tree themselves (most of which was done in the bedroom of Ryan’s parents’ home), this DIY project showcases the versatility of Cherub Tree in the indie-rock and bubble-grunge community. With folk-inspired riffs that encapsulate “serein”, to more up-tempo indie-rock songs like “dreams”, Cherub Tree’s deep resonant tones in their debut EP are complemented by their soft, somber melodies and poetic, narrative lyrics.

Cherub Tree released their long-awaited single in August 2023, titled “not yours, never was - Anthmn Edition"; a Riot-Grrrl anthem inspired by the overturning of Roe v Wade in 2022. Delving deep into their Punk Rock, 90’s Grunge, and Riot-Grrrl influences, Cherub Tree’s new sound has received heavy accolades and praise, and has led them to two separate 2024 Washington DC Wammie Awards for ‘Best Punk Song’ and ‘Best Punk Artist’.

After being awarded for their single, Cherub Tree is in the process of recording their debut album with an expected release date in late 2024 or early 2025.
