Sweet Touch

Trapcry

Born Gene Thompson in New Castle, Delaware, TRAPCRY began cultivating his idea of pop music between Richmond, Virginia, and Atlanta. He is an artist that represents a musical exploration of queerness in race, politics, sex, resistance, and power. With a visual aesthetic that communicates a mysterious, almost sensual darkness, he invites listeners into a world that often challenges musical norms and transcends genre. On albums like Dangerous, the sexual and political are entwined — converging as Trapcry wrestles with forces of power in his life. Even with heavy themes such as these, Trapcry balances sincerity, concern, and anger with his infectious beats and unapologetic presentation. Playfully and masterfully altering the gender dynamic in his songs, we get a new and fun sound that is as much entertainment as it is interesting.
