Anthemic, hard driving, and the best album that's ever had guys peeing on concrete as it's cover art. Our next album in our Needle Drop series is The Who's 1971 album WHO'S NEXT - an album that took the Who's iconic "Maximum R&B" sound and distilled it to it's most powerful dosage. We've had this one circled for awhile.

The album was originally concieved as a Rock Opera similar to Tommy, dubbed "Life House". Don't bother googling the plot, it makes no sense - something the band eventually realized and scrapped (but would partially reserect 2 years later with Quadrophenia). But that sense of theatricality and sonic consistency lives on in the final product, creating one of the most ambitious hard rock albums of the 70's.

With the soaring Baba O'Riley starting things off, through the hard pounding My Wife (borat voice), the tender fragility of Behind Blue Eyes, and the hard rocking closer Won't Get Fooled Again. For most bands, this would be a greatest hits record - for The Who it was just the beginning of the second phase of their career, taking their British Invasion sounds to edgier, darker, and more synth driven places.

Come and celebrate the album, live and in full - plus a few extras after.
