PORTLAND’S DOOMBIA ANNOUNCES SOPHOMORE ALBUM ‘EL DIABLO QUE CONOCES,’ EXPANDING BILINGUAL CUMBIA-DOOM HYBRID SOUND
Second album from the critically acclaimed, BIPOC-led quartet drops November 6 on vinyl; all-ages release show announced at The Off-Beat.
PORTLAND, OR — October 2, 2026 — The world's only cumbia-doom metal outfit, Portland's Doombia has officially announced the November 6, 2026 release of their highly anticipated sophomore album, El Diablo Que Conoces. Available on vinyl, CD, cassette and digital formats, the record expands the band’s singular vision of heavy music as an inclusive, borderless force. To celebrate the launch, Doombia will headline an all-ages album release show on release night, November 6, at Portland’s newest all-ages venue, The Off-Beat, featuring support from DJ Lissex, The Melts, and De la Flor.
Vinyl pre-sales for El Diablo Que Conoces launch today via Bandcamp Friday.
Recorded with renowned producer Justin Phelps (The Mars Volta, Dead Kennedys) and mastered by Grammy-winner Alan Douches (Mastodon, Converge), the new album serves as a masterclass in cross-cultural genre-bending. Drawing equal inspiration from the crushing weight of Black Sabbath and the hypnotic rhythms of Los Mirlos, Doombia constructs a fuzzy, heavy, and deeply danceable bilingual space where musical heritage and underground sonic exploration collide.
The road to El Diablo Que Conoces has been paved with sweeping critical acclaim for the band's recent singles, including the dark and fuzzy existential anthem "¿Quién Soy Yo?". Critics have praised the track's heavy sonic contrast, with Clear Vision Collective noting that "heady guitar riffs descend like thunderclouds while percussion and cumbia rhythms keep the listeners grounded and grooving. The result’s a cultural conversation that welcomes tapping into a flow state. One tradition doesn’t overpower the other. Instead, both are allowed to exist in the same space, creating something heavier, stranger, and more alive.". If It’s Too Loud lauded the quartet's grit, calling it "a killer mid-tempo song just dying to explode," while Rebel Noise highlighted the track's balance of existential weight and communal dancefloor pulse.
Formed in 2023 by Latin musician Brendan Deiz—who unexpectedly discovered doom metal while working as a guitar teacher—Doombia has rapidly ascended the Pacific Northwest underground scene. Now a powerhouse quartet featuring Deiz alongside Roney (drums), Dusty Richards (bass), and Nate Wright of local doom/psych greats Tigers on Opium (congas/percussion), the group embodies regional musical evolution. In their brief tenure, the BIPOC-led, gender-queer ensemble has toured the West Coast, earned multiple competitive artist grants, been named one of Willamette Week’s Best of Portland 2024, and was featured on the cover of The Portland Mercury's 2026 Music Issue for their signature "headbanging, hip-shaking" sound.
The album campaign kicked off earlier this fall with a preview and listening showcase hosted by Portland’s historic Music Millennium indie record store. With momentum surging ahead of the November vinyl drop, Doombia invites reviewers, music writers, and cultural editors to cross borders and step onto the dance floor.
