We close the 2023 Needle Drop series with a 50th anniversary celebration of one of our staff's most beloved LP's - WINGS 1973 classic BAND ON THE RUN!

A testiment to Paul McCartney's pop genius with a more traditional classic rock underbelly then any of his previous solo efforts - Band on the Run solidified WINGS as a competent successor to McCartney's previous group (maybe you've heard of them), even though the titular "band" was just McCartney, his wife, and Danny Laine by the time it was time to leave for Africa to record the album.

Lead off by the most cheery jailbreak song ever BAND ON THE RUN weaves seamlessly through varied soundscapes like the gentle BLUEBIRD, the sexy bass belly of LET ME ROLL IT, the nursey rhyme drinking song PICASSOS LAST WORDS, concluding with with the frantic and retro futurism high energy banger NINETEEN HUNDRED EIGHTY FIVE. It's probably the closest Paul got to writing a spirtual successor to Abbey Road - and it's a Needle Drop 50 years in the making.

Performed by our house band TERRY RADSHAW (previously of our Carole King, Led Zeppelin, Billy Joel and Kacey Musgrave shows), which is packed with some of the best musicians in the Burgh, and even more singers rotating throughout, they’ll do the album in full and then a few extras too!
