Calling all bookworms! Whether you’re a book lover or you’re seeking community and want to join a new club, this is your chance! It’s the VERY FIRST edition of the BOTTLEROCKET BOOK CLUB...Led by Pittsburgh Action Against Rape!
We’ll be meeting in the bar to discuss the BOOK OF THE MONTH, enjoying some cocktails (or mocktails) and having a great time! This is an inclusive event, and all are welcome- even if it’s been a while since you’ve read anything!
For the FIRST EVER Bottlerocket Book Club, we’re diving into “SPEAK” by LAURIE HALSE ANDERSON which we recommend picking up locally at STAY GOLD BOOKS.
Book blurb: Speak is Laurie Halse Anderson’s breakout young adult novel, originally published in 1999. The novel follows Melinda Sordino, a high school freshman who becomes a social pariah when she calls the police to a party after she is sexually assaulted. Melinda stops speaking almost entirely as she grapples with her isolation and the trauma of the assault. Through art, she reclaims her voice and begins to heal. In May, Prime Stage Theater Company will debut the first theatrical production of the novel at the New Hazlett Center for Performing Arts.
