Before playlists. Before algorithms. Before music was something you scrolled past. There was a time when songs were discovered in dark rooms, loud bars, and crowded dance floors—when bands were built on sweat, instinct, and chemistry. Springfield, Missouri’s music scene from the late ’70s through the mid ’90s was one of those rare moments, and C3 is a direct line back to it.

C3 brings together three musicians who helped shape that era: Brian Coffman of Fools Face (guitar), Chris Coffman of The Misstakes (drums), and Ray Cardwell of The Motion (vocals/bass). A true power trio, their sound channels the urgency and attitude of Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, The Clash, The Police, The Plimsouls, and The Nerves. Music that was smart, sharp, and impossible to ignore.
Brian Coffman’s fiery guitar work and impassioned vocals once carried Fools Face to a national recording contract. Chris Coffman’s drumming doesn’t just keep time, it creates the groove that pulls everything forward. And Ray Cardwell’s commanding voice and bass playing anchor it all, forged by decades of songwriting, touring, and most recently, the past four years on the road playing bass and singing for Dave Mason's band (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - Traffic). Beyond C3, Ray continues to evolve, having just released a new Americana solo album on Americana Vibes/Regime Music Group (produced by and collaborated with Jeremy Garrett of the Infamous Stringdusters) and preparing to collaborate with Arkansauce later this year.
This isn’t a tribute. This isn’t a reunion. This is a continuation.
It’s a chance to hear the sound of a scene that never really left, played by the people who helped create it. If you spent your nights in venues like this between the ’70s and ’90s, if you still believe music should be felt as much as heard, this night is for you.
Join us for an evening that honors where we’ve been, celebrates where we are, and reminds us why this music still matters again and again.
