Dash Rip Rock is the legendary New Orleans trio known for high-octane

roots rock. The New York Times says Dash Rip Rock combines “fluency

in American roots music with a robust dose of punk-rock spirit.” SPIN

praises Dash Rip Rock as “undeniably the South’s greatest rock band.”

In 2012 Dash Rip Rock was honored to be inducted into the Louisiana

Music Hall of Fame.

Dash Rip Rock has long been celebrated for tight musicianship and

high energy live shows. Bill Davis, Dash Rip Rock’s founder and

frontman, is a songwriter known for his blistering guitar work.

Through its history the band has amassed a loyal and diverse

following. The wide tent of Dash's cross-genre fan base includes

aficionados of rock, roots-rock and Americana as well as rockabilly,

country, and punk. DRR has released 19+ records that have been hailed

as underground classics. They are played regularly on Sirius XM and

globally.

Bill Davis started the band in Baton Rouge. DRR was first signed

to 688 Records, then stepped up to the powerful NC indie Mammoth

Records. In the ’90s Dash Rip Rock scored a national radio hit with a

tongue-in-cheek single, “Let’s Go Smoke Some Pot.” This tongue-in-

cheek classic is still played religiously over FM airwaves on

counterculture feast days and covered regularly by major rock acts.

In 2000, the Louisiana-based band began to release records on Jello

Biafra’s Alternative Tentacles label in San Francisco. They currently

are with Drag Snake Records in New Orleans. DRR's latest recordings

effortlessly meld rock, swamp, and garage influences with blazing

guitar work and a touch of humor.

Dash Rip Rock tours extensively and headlines numerous clubs,

festivals and roots listening rooms. Dash Rip Rock has toured the US

with Reverend Horton Heat, the dBs and The Cramps. They have shared

the stage with The Ramones, Jerry Lee Lewis, Lou Reed, The

Replacements, No Doubt, Drive By Truckers, Lucinda Williams,

Supersuckers, the Circle Jerks, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Black Crowes,

Joe Ely, Molly Hatchet, David Allen Coe, and countless others - at

times playing up to 250 shows a year.

Bill Davis, founder, lead guitarist, vocalist and songwriter of Dash

Rip Rock is often credited as a pioneer of country punk or “cowpunk.”

This high energy genre combines elements of rock with country, outlaw

country and punk rock. In interviews Davis says that he considers his

music to be widely roots-based. The Austin Chronicle calls Davis “the

brains behind Dash's brawn, a barroom poet with a wicked sense of

humor and a shameless knack for a good lick.

Their latest vinyl release is 2023's “Cowpunk.” Recorded at Rancho de

la Luna with Dave Catching (Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death

Metal) and Alain Johannes (Them Crooked Vultures) – it is a classic

fast and heavy collection of country punk tunes. Offbeat Magazine

calls it “the be-all, end-all statement on the true definition of the

genre.”
