The Needle Drop series continues for it’s second 2024 edition - featuring a brand new band of fantastic local musicians taking on one of my personal favorites - Paul Simon's joyful & timeless 1986 release GRACELAND.

We’ve got a wonderful band assembled to fully capture each of the albums mosaic of influences, from African Jive to the Mississippi Delta - this is easily our most ambitious Needle Drop yet.

Legend has it the album came together after Paul Simon was given a bootleg cassette with the writing “Gumboots Accordion Jive Vol 2” on it - launching him on a musical odyssey that would take him around the world, and into controversy, as he hoped to introduce the African music he became enraptured with to the rest of the world. Thankfully, he was smart enough to not try and do that by himself- working and touring with some of South Africa’s finest musicians, several of whom had been exiled from the country.

The music that was created from those collaborations became the most singular and enduring work of his career, a tapestry of sounds that somehow weaves together synths, accordions, chants, bouncing guitars, and more into one tour-de-force life affirming album.

You know the hits (the title track and the Chevy Chase starring You Can Call Me Al) - you probably know the deep cuts too (the toe tapping I Know What I Know and Gumboots are standouts) - come celebrate it with us, live and in full, with an intimate performance.

This show has optional RESERVED SEATING if you would like front row chairs for the performance.
