Guitar Monsters, presented by Rockin’ 4 Vets, brings these accomplished guitar heroes—Jon Butcher and Johnny A.—together for a special performance supporting veterans and community organizations throughout the region. This is more than a concert featuring two great guitarists. It is a meeting of two distinctive musical voices and two remarkable careers, bringing together decades of experience, countless stages and a passion for the electric guitar.
Guitar Monsters are Johnny A. and Jon Butcher, two New England guitar legends who have carved out very different musical identities while sharing deep roots in the region's rock tradition. The result promises great songs, massive guitar tones, stories from the road, spontaneous musical exchanges and the kind of live guitar interplay that cannot be duplicated, each bringing a remarkable history to the stage.
Jon Butcher first made his mark with the Boston-area band Johanna Wild before forming the Jon Butcher Axis. The Axis became one of the most respected power trios to emerge from New England, taking Butcher's blues-infused rock sound to audiences well beyond the region. A Grammy nominated Artist, his career has included performances and tours with some of rock's biggest names, including Rush, Def Leppard, the Scorpions and the J. Geils Band. Butcher has also been part of Barefoot Servants and projects celebrating the music of Jimi Hendrix through Experience Hendrix. His combination of powerful vocals, blues-based guitar playing and aggressive rock energy has made him a defining figure in the New England music scene. His New England Music Hall of Fame induction recognizes his enduring contribution to the region's musical legacy.
Johnny A.'s career has taken him from Boston clubs to international stages and prestigious guitar events around the world. A Grammy-nominated guitarist, songwriter and producer and a member of the Boston Music Hall of Fame, Johnny A. has developed a recognizable instrumental style blending rock, blues, jazz and soul. His résumé includes serving as musical director and lead guitarist for Peter Wolf, frontman of the J. Geils Band. His acclaimed solo career followed, highlighted by Sometime Tuesday Morning and performances at major festivals including Eric Clapton's Crossroads Festival, Fuji Rock in Japan and the Montreal Jazz Festival. Another significant chapter came when Johnny A. became a former touring guitarist for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Yardbirds. Performing with a band whose history includes guitar legends Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page placed Johnny A. in a remarkable lineage of musicians who helped shape rock guitar.
Johnny A. and Jon Butcher approach the guitar from different directions, but each has spent decades showing the depth and versatility of New England's rock tradition, and both have shared stages with celebrated musicians—Johnny A. alone has worked with B.B. King, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Jimmie Vaughan, Etta James, Robert Cray and Peter Frampton. Together they form the New England foundation of Guitar Monsters. The real excitement comes when these worlds collide through guitar exchanges, songs from extraordinary careers and spontaneous collaboration—a lineup for fans who know great guitar playing is about tone, feel, personality and storytelling, not speed or volume. And this story has a purpose beyond the music.
That breadth of experience is what makes Guitar Monsters different. This isn't simply a showcase of guitar technique. It is a meeting of musicians who understand how to use the guitar to serve a song, create emotion and connect with an audience. Guitar Monsters is presented by Rockin’ 4 Vets, with benefit performances supporting organizations that serve veterans and communities throughout New England. For guitar fans, the opportunity is obvious. For supporters of veterans, the mission makes the music even more meaningful.
Johnny A. and Jon Butcher have spent their careers carrying the spirit of New England rock to stages around the world. Now, the two of them bring that experience together for one unforgettable night.
Guitar Monsters is rock and roll with a reason to turn up the volume. Two guitarists. Two extraordinary careers. One stage. One mission!!!!!!!!
