Come on, Davey, sing me something that I know. We're celebrating the 25th anniversary of the mainstream emo classic, Bleed American, by JIMMY EAT WORLD with a front to back playthrough by Pittsburgh locals, FRAME AND MANTLE!!
Bleed American is a record built from adversity, one that truly embodies the lyric "It just takes some time..."
The band was dropped from Capitol Records after the commercial failure of their previous record, Clarity, a cult classic in it's own right. Its failure forced the band to self-fund the recording of Bleed American, which would become a massive hit. Taking up odd jobs in construction, at a car dealership, and selling art supplies, members of the band weren't sure if the check would even bounce when they paid for mixing. Producer, Mark Trombino, worked for free, confident he would be reimbursed from the record's success.
The demos were leaked on Napster, generating buzz, attracting attention from label representatives, and eventually leading to their signing to DreamWorks Records. The record released in July of 2001 and was certified gold by March of 2002, and then went platinum five months after that leading to appearances on The Tonight Show, Saturday Night Live, and a slot on the infamous Pop Disaster Tour, opening for Blink 182 and Green Day.
Drummer, Zach Lind, said, "The way that Bleed American just opened doors for us was maybe one of the most satisfying experiences of my life. In the wake of all the frustration and banging our head against the wall at Capitol, it just felt like everything aligned perfectly, and I think we were lucky to be able to experience that in that way, because I don't think a lot of people get that moment in their life."
So If you're listening (whoa oh-oh-oh-oh), grab your tickets and sing it back with us August 8th!
