Every generation has it's share of bands who get filed away as perennial critical darlings yet commercially misunderstood, only to be rediscovered decades later; The Replacements may be the poster child of that phenomenon for the 80s. Perpetually underselling, perpetually tripping over themselves - both literally and metaphorically - there's a reason they've long been called "the best band to never make it" (although the fact that they spawned an album great enough to join our Live Album series may actually be proof they did).

TIM was their first major labor effort, produced by punk rock god Tommy Ramone himself - and it comes jammed with classics from a range of Rock & Roll Influences - from the Roy Oberson tinged Swingin Party to the college radio anthem Left of the Dial - the honky tonk Stones find a home on Waitress in the Sky, and Big Star shines through on album opener Hold My Life. Hell, even their hit Can't Hardly Wait was written during this period of the band, before being set aside for their follow up effort. It had everything it needed to be a classic; but in true Replacements fashion - a series of bizarre circumstances took hold; was Ramones induced tinnitus to blame for Tommy's sloppy mix of the album? Who exactly smuggled alcohol into their SNL dressing room, turning what could've been a breakthrough performance into an expletive laden drunken mess (which led to them being banned from 8H)? In hindsight the self sabotage and the disasterclass performances only added to the lore - lore that's only interesting because it left something truly great behind when the dust settled.

We're not in Minnesota, but dive bar rock always sounds great at Bottlerocket. So grab a beer (or a couple) and join TV's Norm brings this classic record to life front to back!
