About the show:

Experience an evening of unparalleled improvisation and melodic genius as two of the most dynamic instrumentalists in the United States, guitarist Flavio Silva and saxophonist Harvey Lockhart, unite for a special tribute to the titan of jazz, Sonny Rollins.

For this one-night-only engagement, Silva and Lockhart, together with Felipe Brito on trombone, Andrew Binder on bass, and Louie Pereira on drums, will explore the boundless architecture of Rollins’ legendary catalog, echoing the saxophonist’s own pioneering work in this collaboration.

Together, they will reimagine masterpieces from the Rollins songbook, including the calypso-infused swing of “St. Thomas,” the hard-bop gallop of “Oleo,” the gentle balladry of “God Bless the Child,” and the modal exploration of “The Freedom Suite.”

This is more than a tribute; it is a dialogue. It’s a celebration of spontaneity, a deep dive into the improviser’s art, and a testament to the enduring power of Sonny Rollins’ music, interpreted through the singular voices of two masters at the peak of their creative powers.

About Harvey Lockhart
Harvey Lockhart is a Grammy-nominated saxophonist, music educator, composer, and real estate investor. He is the Founder, Executive, and Artistic Director of the HEAL Center for the Arts in St. Louis, MO. The Center provides arts education programs after school and during school vacations for middle and high school students and fosters a rich, diverse cultural perspective on the arts.

Harvey is part of the Jazz St. Louis Big Band and has performed with Melton Mustafa, Wycliffe Gordon, Darryl Reeves, Russell Gunn, Lewis Nash, Carl Allen, John Fedchock, Benny Golson, Lew Soloff, Curtis Fuller, Louie Bellson, Byron Stripling, Reggie Thomas, and Marilyn Maye, to name a few. Harvey Lockhart did Music Education at Florida A&M University and Jazz Studies at Northern Illinois University.

2019 Hot House Jazz Magazine Awardee as best Jazz Guitarist, Flavio Silva is a musician who is part of a new generation of Brazilian composers and instrumentalists breaking through the musical scenes in Brazil, the Netherlands, and New York.

Flavio has shared the stage with some highly skilled musicians, including Antonio Hart, Bruce Williams, Seamus Blake, Marc Cary, Arturo O’Farrill, Victor Wooten, James Francies, Ben Williams, Elijah Jamal Balbed, Munir Hossn, Cuca Teixeira, Sandro Haick, and Thiago Espirito Santo, among others.

Flavio also performed at some of the best festivals in Europe, including the North Sea Jazz Festival (The Netherlands), Langnau Jazz Nights (Switzerland), Koektebel Jazz Party (Ukraine), Gronau Jazz Festival (Germany), and Delft Jazz Festival (The Netherlands).

In 2024, Flavio announces the release of his new album EKO. This album is the outcome of all the experiences Flavio had during the pandemic. It incorporates the American art form with both African and Afro-Brazilian sounds mixed with electronic sounds. The multi-brand endorsee presents this dynamic and versatile music with particular dexterity and flair, while maintaining the attention and appreciation of all music lovers.
