Mothlights

Mothlights is a Washington DC slowcore and primitive guitar band combining influence from slowcore luminaries, the American primitive guitar scene, Bengali folk music, and found sounds. This project aims to weaponize aesthetics of the collective loss in our time and find militancy in the mourning. Their 2023 debut Walking the World With A Leaky Umbrella, out on Strawberry Moon Records, confronts themes of decolonization, reculturation, antifascism and climate anxiety alongside personal themes of melancholy, remembrance, and mental health struggles. Both the record and live performances feature songs with dense arrangements, odd time signatures, and strangely timbre instrumentation. Live performances bring these lush textures to life with layers of keys and intricately arranged guitars.
